Ioannis Chiotopoulos: Hope for a safer and greener maritime industry globally

Ioannis Chiotopoulos, Senior Vice President & Regional Manager South East Europe, Middle East and Africa, DNV Maritime

I am very optimistic about the prospects of the maritime industry for the coming years. Why? Because we have continually proven how robust and resilient our industry is. Don’t forget that during the pandemic, shipping pulled together to safeguard world trade under the most challenging circumstances.

The future of the maritime industry is being determined by decarbonization. I hope 2023 will be the year of commitment and action. We should embrace fuel flexibility and energy efficiency, engage in testing and piloting new fuels and technologies, and collaborate on significant safety challenges that threaten to disrupt the energy transition.

There is already a lot happening to increase the industry’s sustainability. And if we work together, we will have the opportunity to accelerate the transition. May our partnerships and bonds become even stronger in this new year.

With lots of hope for a safer and greener maritime industry globally, I am sending warm holiday wishes to you and your families.
